Go through the qualification process as an individual and on the day of the hackathon, we will run a small matchmaking program during check-in to help individuals find/form teams.

There will be a few themes/ tracks to the event. Please check the Tracks section for more details. However, these are only recommendations and you can focus on any problem and use any programming language you choose. It is important to be a strong coder, as there are no judgement criteria other than code quality.

The event will be judged by a panel of veterans from the industry; they will evaluate your code to see how well it solves the problem at hand. Elegance and creativity will also be measured.

Laptops for coding. If you are using any special kits of any kind (Lego Mindstorms etc.), please bring those as well. If you have specific requirements, please reach out in advance and we will see what we can do.

As far as possible, we would like you to start at the event itself, however, we recognise that it is not always possible to do so. Hence, you will be allowed to bring in prior art, if you have a spec and a declaration of what already exists and also of what will be built at the event. Judging will take into account how much of the product was built before versus during the event.

Also, Sequoia Capital requires that all teams honour all existing licenses on prior art and not violate any confidences, contracts, licenses, patents by bringing prior art to the event. You are responsible for respecting any property rights of third parties.
